India vs China, Asian Champions Trophy final: Favourites India eye 5th crown

Indian men’s hockey team is set to face China in the final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024. India thrashed South Korea 4-1 in the semi-final of the tournament at Hulunbuir on Monday, September 16. In the other semi-final of the tournament, hosts China shocked Pakistan to reach the final after they beat Men in Green 2-0 in the shootout.
India are heavy favourites in the final after their stellar performance against South Korea. A brace from captain Harmanpreet Singh and a goal each from Uttam Singh and Jermanpreet Singh helped India continue their dominant run in the continental tournament.
India have been exceptional with their field goals and creative passing. Uttam and Jarmanpreet’s goals were a testament to how creative and lethal this team can be when they are at their best. Apart from the attackers, the defence has done well in the post-PR Sreejesh era. Goalkeepers Krishan Pathak and Suraj Karkera have been brilliant under the sticks and due to their collective effort, India have conceded just 5 goals in the tournament so far.
The Indian team are expected to clinch their 5th Asian Champions Trophy and it will be a huge upset if the Harmanpreet Singh’s team are beaten by China in the summit clash. It is not like China have not beaten India before in men’s hockey. The solitary victory for the Chinese side came in the 2013 edition of the same tournament when they beat India 2-0.
India are yet to be defeated in the Asian Champions Trophy this year. India beat China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Pakistan to reach the semi-final of the tournament. In the semis, India thrashed Korea 4-1.
